MINUTES of the Board of Civil Authority Meeting
Held at the Town Clerk’s Office
November 8, 2021
Those present: John Benson, Jeff Kimmel, Dennis LaRocque, Kate Threlkeld and Betty Lord, Selectboard Members; Teresa Godfrey, Town Clerk; Amy Ingrassia, Assistant Town Clerk; Jack Zebora, Nina Gaby and Craig Smith.
A. Appointment of Chair and Call to Order – Mr. John Benson was appointed Chair of the meeting, and he called the meeting to order at 6:40 pm.
B. PUBLIC DISCUSSION – Legislative Apportionment Board proposed House of Representatives Legislative District Change – Discussion ensued regarding the proposed changes of legislative districts. The proposed district of which Brookfield would be a part includes Brookfield, Braintree, Roxbury, and a part of Randolph.
Mr. Jack Zebora stated that his concern with the suggested reapportionment of the legislative districts is that the town of Randolph had been split up and that it is his belief that a town should not be split into different legislative districts.
Mr. Benson stated that he believes the district should remain as it is with two legislative representatives for the five towns in the district. Brookfield, Braintree and Randolph especially, because they share the same school system, mental health and hospital services, policing services and other services.
It was the consensus of the Board of Civil Authority that the legislative districts should remain the same as they are at present.
C. ELECT A BCA FEEDBACK REPRESENTATIVE – Ms. Threlkeld and Ms. Lord were appointed to prepare the feedback report to be sent to the Legislative Apportionment Board.
D. ADJOURNMENT – There being no further business to come before the BCA, the meeting was adjourned at 6:50 pm.
